Method of Education Delivery

To support the online learning system, the courses apply a student-centered learning method. In this method, students will be encouraged to be active during the learning process. Students should boost their self-motivation in completing the tasks by discussing with the lecturer, tutors, and other students. Being active in discussion forums or face-to-face sessions with the lecturer or tutor is very useful to improve students’ understanding and ability regarding the knowledge and skills learned. Students’ learning is directed towards learning to do and learning to be, and not merely learning to know.

The implementation of online learning education uses the semester credit system. Learning activities consist of online sessions and tutorial sessions. Online sessions are conducted through the Learning Management System (LMS), where the students and the facilitator can asynchronously interact via discussion forums. All the learning materials, called online resources (i.e. lecture notes, presentations, videos, assignments, quizzes), are stored in LMS so the students can access, download, and do the self-learning. In the sessions, the students should also complete the assignment tasks and do the quizzes, which are distributed in LMS. Meanwhile, tutorial sessions are conducted to facilitate the synchronous meetings between students and tutors. The sessions can be done face-to-face, either onsite or through video conference meetings.

To support the teaching and learning strategies, BINUS Online Learning provides the BINUS UNIVERSITY Learning Community (BULC) in Palembang, Bekasi, Semarang, and Malang. The teaching and learning strategies in the online learning system are in the form of lectures, assignments (individual and group assignments), discussions, and tutorials. Then there are some subjects which also have teaching and learning strategies in the form of presentations and practical activities.

The online learning system is focusing on learning guidance (tutorials, chat in forums, etc.) as well as independent learning. Information technology tools are used optimally to allow intensive interactions between faculty and students. Lecturers and students get Internet accounts. Students can view comprehensive information about schedules, rules, course materials, scores, discussions, and registering study plans on their LMS. The electronic facilities are adequate and support all the activities of the students in the learning process.
