Preface

Thanks to the grace of God Almighty, the BINA NUSANTARA Foundation has successfully developed BINUS University into a recognized and highly valued educational institution, not only for people from all walks of life across Indonesia but also within the global academic community. As an institution of higher education, BINUS has consistently demonstrated its commitment to delivering high-quality, relevant education aligned with the needs of industry. In pursuit of international standards of excellence, we continuously strive to provide students with outstanding learning experiences, up-to-date course materials, and dedicated professionals to impart knowledge and skills. Additionally, we implement a student-centered learning approach and develop internationally recognized curricula in collaboration with our industry and global partners.

In an era marked by rapid global change and technological advancement, higher education must transcend the mere transmission of theoretical knowledge to equip students with practical skills, critical thinking, and the adaptability needed to succeed in diverse professional contexts. At BINUS University, our curriculum is grounded in the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), which ensures that learning outcomes—encompassing knowledge, skills, and attitudes—are explicitly defined and effectively aligned with instructional strategies and assessment methods. This alignment fosters clarity, coherence, and relevance across all academic programs. We also uphold the principles of Student-Centered Learning (SCL), which places students at the core of the educational process. Rather than serving as passive recipients, students are engaged as active participants—learning through inquiry, collaboration, and reflection within dynamic and supportive environments. Our approach embraces flexibility and inclusiveness, accommodating the diverse needs, backgrounds, and learning contexts of our students.

In line with the evolving demands of the digital era, we have strategically integrated artificial intelligence (AI) across the curriculum, empowering students to develop both a strong conceptual foundation and practical fluency in intelligent systems. This integration extends beyond technical proficiency; it also fosters ethical awareness and agile thinking—essential attributes for navigating the opportunities and challenges of AI-driven environments.

Our commitment to excellence is further reinforced through ongoing collaboration with industry and international academic partners to ensure that our programs meet both global standards and local relevance. These partnerships facilitate the continuous renewal of course content, the integration of emerging technologies, and the preparation of students for a globally interconnected workforce. To enrich academic experiences, BINUS University offers structured learning pathways that align with each student’s academic progress, interests, and professional aspirations. Through our mobility program, students may study across different BINUS campuses in Indonesia, gaining regional and cultural insight that enhance their adaptability and broaden their perspectives. Additionally, our minor programs enable students to expand their expertise beyond their primary field of study, fostering interdisciplinary thinking and cultivating a more versatile skill set.

In response to the demands of a dynamic global workforce, BINUS University offers a structured one-year Enrichment Program designed to prepare students for real-world challenges while enhancing both their employability and entrepreneurial aspirations. This program serves as a bridge between academic learning and practical application, enabling students to translate their knowledge into meaningful professional experiences. Implemented in the final year of undergraduate study, the Enrichment Program provides a range of curated tracks, including internships, entrepreneurship, research, community development, study abroad, independent study, and postgraduate preparation. These diverse opportunities are supported by strategic collaborations with industry, academic institutions, and community partners. Conducted either off-campus or within BINUS University’s innovation ecosystem, the Enrichment Program equips students with the competencies, exposure, and confidence needed to enter the workforce or launch their own ventures as capable, ethical, and forward-thinking professionals.

More than a path to graduation, the curriculum at BINUS University is designed as a platform for lifelong learning and personal growth. Through the integration of OBE, SCL, and future-focused content like AI, we aim to cultivate graduates who are competent, ethical, and globally engaged.

Also, we continuously measure and enhance our quality through ISO 9001 (since 1997), the education criteria for performance excellence based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA). As part of its vision to become a world-class university that fosters and empowers society and contributes to national development, BINUS University has implemented Performance Excellence based on the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria since 2008. In 2011, BINUS University applied for the Indonesian Quality Award, managed by the Indonesian Quality Award Foundation (IQAF), and in both 2017 and 2019, the university achieved the level of Emerging Industry Leader. In 2022, BINUS participated in the Indonesia Performance Excellence Award (IPEA)—based on the Baldrige Excellence Framework and administered by the Indonesia Quality and Productivity Management Association (IQPMA)—and was awarded “the Best in Class” designation in 2023, BINUS University again attained the “Best in Class” recognition at the Global Performance Excellence Award, representing the Asia-Pacific region.

BINUS University  was the recipient of the Indonesian MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise) Award for 11 consecutive years from 2007 to 2017, and received three special recognitions: “Admirable Strong Internal Commitment” in 2011, “Admirable Consistency in Improving Knowledge Management Implementation” in 2013, the Asian MAKE Winner Award in 2014, and “Admirable for Incremental Improvement” for the Indonesian MAKE Study Award in 2016. Starting in 2018, the MAKE Award evolved into the Global MIKE (Most Innovative Knowledge Enterprise Award) Award, and from 2018 to 2024, BINUS University won the Global MIKE Award for six consecutive years.

As part of its commitment to delivering world-class education, BINUS University strives to achieve national and international accreditations. At the national level,  18 study programs at BINUS University received “Unggul” (Excellent) accreditation, 1 study program received “Baik Sekali” (Very Good) accreditation, 8 study programs received “A” accreditation, 15 study programs received “Baik” (Good) accreditation, and 14 study programs received “B” accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024. BINUS University is also recognized as “the Best Private University” from the Private Higher Education Coordinator (KOPERTIS) for Region III of DKI Jakarta in 2022. Most recently, in 2022, BINUS University received an “Unggul” (Excellent) rating for institutional accreditation (AIPT) from BAN-PT.

In addition to national accreditations, BINUS University actively pursues international recognition from reputable global accreditation boards.  BINUS University first obtained full accreditation from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) in 2015, which was renewed in 2021 for Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Engineering programs. BINUS University also earned IABEE (Indonesian Accreditation Board of Engineering Education) accreditation for Computer Engineering in 2019, and for Industrial Engineering and Civil Engineering in 2018. As for the Hotel Management Program, BINUS University was awarded TEDQUAL accreditation- an international quality assurance system for tourism and hospitality education—in 2018, and this was renewed in 2022. In the same year (2018), BINUS University also achieved a QS 4-Star Rating. As part of its international recognition, BINUS University ranked in the 801-1000 position of the QS World University in both 2019 and 2020. In late 2019, BINUS Business School was rewarded with AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation, one of the most reputable global business education networks and associations based in the USA. . Additionally, between 2022 and 2023, several programs—including Accounting (Bachelor’s and Master’s), International Relations, Visual Communication Design (Jakarta, Bandung, and Malang), Japanese Literature, Law, Food Technology, Psychology, Film, Interior Design, Hospitality, and Product Design—were accredited by HEEACT (Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan). Most recently,  In late 2023, all   undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science programs at BINUS University obtained ASIIN accreditation. Moreover, both undergraduate and master’s degrees in this field were awarded the Euro-Inf Seal.

With 44 years of exceptional experience in education and a network of over 150,000 alumni, BINUS University is well-positioned to grow as a globally recognized educational institution. BINUS University offers both single and double major programs, developed in collaboration with prominent overseas universities to enhance the qualifications and competitiveness of its graduates. Through the double major program, students can earn two bachelor’s degrees.
