Topics:
Community Development is a process where all community members take collective action together and generate solutions/initiatives to solve their own community problems. Introducing this concept to students as early as possible is one of the ways to give them awareness of their whereabouts as a part of the society. By this awareness, the responsibilities and roles that they should have will be followed automatically. Students will learn to adjust to a new condition and new community, outside of their comfort state. They can build relations and understand the facts that lie behind assumptions. They will gather data and analyze community resources and needs. Finally, they should learn how to apply their skills to create an intervention in the society. This course will provide this media by not only collaborating with communities directly, but also every other stakeholder that in the future will give benefits to the society. Through this experiential learning design, the program aims to guide students to apply their skills in generating solutions based on the identified problems, as well as execute their ideas into practicable actions and give them the opportunities to make connections between knowledge, behavior, and practice.
