DESIGN STUDIES I (8 SCU)
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to: Identify the elements of graphic design, grid system and its interconnected goals, applicable in screen-based design projects; Construct desktop publishing projects utilizing the graphic design software, with various design elements and integrating other design principles; Experiment with various application of grid system in interactive design, together with the supporting visual graphic elements such as but not limited to images, typography and color; Apply creative ideas in desktop publishing project using software graphic tools and software, with proper balance between beauty and functionality; Demonstrate the visual continuity in multiple pages layout and various print media applications, using software graphic tools; Design multiple pages of documents using integrating design principles, typography, and multiple software skill; Evaluate design studies projects; Demonstrate the ability to criticize works in design studies’ presentation.
Topics:
Layout in variant two-dimensional computer project syntactically, semiotic (semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic) in design and graphic system, color and visual design analysis will be integrated into a series of projects, applying graphic design workflow from paper-screen-to print.
Prerequisite(s): Computer Graphic I and Fundamental Principles of Design
