Communication Research Methodology (4 SCU)
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to: identify and explain the research problem area in social studies; apply critical thinking in analyzing research problems; review the position of the theory in the research; differentiate the types, purposes, and uses of communication research; explain and apply the principles of qualitative and quantitative research, including the processes, data collection methods, and analysis; apply appropriate approaches and techniques in designing a research project; and communicate research ideas and designs effectively in verbal and written forms.
Topics
The course introduces students to a conceptual and theoretical basis on research methods in communication contexts, applying a qualitative and quantitative approach. It trains students to identify a social science enquiry related to issues in communication and media fields. Students also learn how to build literature review and theoretical framework as well as an appropriate research design for their selected topic. This courses also expects students to conduct a mini research and present the findings for a wider audience through a written or oral communication.
