DRAPING (6 SCU)
Learning outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to apply draping vocabulary and fundamental rules pertaining to the technique of draping, apply range of technical and practical skills in garment construction, analyse and develop muslin on the industrial dress form from chosen sketches and designs, communicate design and technical progress as well as self- development through project, identify the new various types of stitching and finishing with more elaborate technique, apply good time management, evaluate their own progress, and reflect critical self- analysis
Topics:
To provide students with the knowledge and skills through practical exercises, lectures, demonstrations and examples to enable them to identify the configuration of the female silhouette in relation to the cut of ladies garments. This course will introduce the vocabulary and fundamental draping techniques using for bodices, dresses and collars on standard industrial dress form. Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to develop muslins on the mannequin or industrial dress form and analyze them, as well as to understand the use of the bias cut in more complex techniques to drape dresses and bodices. Students will have to successfully complete practical exercises and an integrated project in order to complete the module.
