Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to explain the functions and activities of human resource management practiced in today’s global economy, identify and analyse the social and economic factors influencing human resources management practice, identify and analyse the dilemmas faced by human resources managers in the hospitality industry
Topics
This course focuses on the hospitality human resource (HR) management as a decision making process that affects the performance, quality, and legal compliance of the hospitality business as a whole. Beginning with a foundation of the hospitality industry, employment law, and HR policies, the coverage includes recruitment, training, compensation, performance appraisal, environmental and safety concerns, ethics and social responsibility, and special issues. It also discusses dilemmas faced by human resources managers in the hospitality industry, including understanding the needs of a broad employee group, working with labor unions in the hospitality industry, and managing employees in a global hospitality enterprise.
