Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to: demonstrate a critical and creative thinking in understanding the cross-culture and cross-border social issues in Middle East; display effective team-working skills in multi-disciplinary and multi-culture environment in Middle East; display leadership and management skills in multicultural working environment related to Middle East countries’ culture.
Topics
This course provides in two parts an understanding and background of Middle East culture. The first part of this course provides a penetrating analysis of modern Middle Eastern history, from the Ottoman and Egyptian reforms, through the challenge of Western imperialism, to the American invasion of Iraq and Iran’s new influence in the region. Students will have an overview of political history and social, cultural, and economic developments in the region. The second part of the course familiarizes students with the customs, habits, tastes, and religion of North African and Middle Eastern nations. It helps students guarantee the mutual respect and acceptance that are vital for keeping every international business relationship agreeable, effective, and successful.
