Learning Outcomes
Explain the principles and the use of IT/IS concepts in business, by working and communicating as an effective member of a well-managed team utilizing appropriate project management tools; Explain the fundamental behavioral of organizations, technical, business, and managerial concepts in IT/IS, issues of IT application in business processes related to IS components, operations, decision making and creation of competitive advantage; Explain processes and strategies in acquiring and implementing systems, different software development models, effective and ethical management of IS functions and IT resources in creating good business performance and business value for supporting business strategies of the enterprise; Explain IT concepts, terminology, principles, management, and strategies for organizations, by comparing new and emerging technologies to solve IT issues and their impacts on business; Discuss the history of computing, its role in the ICT industry, and the challenges of living in the digital age.
Topics
This course introduces the foundation concepts of information systems (IS), information technology (IT), business applications, development processes and management challenges. This course is designed to give students a multi-faceted appreciation and knowledge of how business-computing and information systems in a world of knowledge-based economy today are designed, built, implemented, and maintained. This course also introduces the fundamentals of Information Technology (IT) components and their major roles in business. This course is designed to give students a multi-faceted appreciation and knowledge of how business-computing and information systems in a world of knowledge-based economy today are designed, built, implemented, and maintained. It also provides students with an introductory overview of the Internet, World Wide Web, impact of computer on society and business, historic development of data processing, basic functions and use of computer hardware, software applications, system software, basic skills in the use of word processing, spread sheet, database, and presentation system and desktop publishing software applications, basic skills using a Web browser and search engine, and careers in the field of Information Technology.
