INTRODUCTORY SPANISH I (4 Credits)

Learning Outcome:

On successful completion of this course, student will be able to: Identify basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar for daily usage; Express basic personal introduction and activities in present time; Give examples of verbs application.

Topics:

1. Introduction of Spanish spoken countries, Spanish language history and the alphabet, basic phonetic system, and syntax (word order);
2. Introduction of definite/indefinite articles for masculine and feminine gender concept;
3. Placement and agreement of adjectives;
4. Introduction of preposition and pronouns;
5. Introduction of cardinal and ordinate numbers;
6. Introduction of time expressions ( telling time, date and expressions of weather);
7. Introduction of Presente Indicativo conjugation of regular -AR, -ER, and –IR verbs;
8. Introduction of reflexive verbs;
9. Application of Presente Indicativo conjugation of reflexive verbs and question tags;
10. Application of Presente Indicativo conjugation of reflexive verbs;
11. Introduction of SER, ESTAR ,TENER and HABER verbs;
12. Introduction and application of SER, ESTAR ,TENER and HABER verbs;
13. Practicing personal introduction in Spanish;
14. Introduction of pronouns, adverbs and Quantitative Adverbials;
15. Introduction of conjugation of irregular -AR, -ER, and –IR verbs;
16. Introduction of conjugation of irregular -AR, -ER, and –IR verbs and auxiliary verbs;
17. Verbs practicing: express obligation and needs, make simple questions;
18. Verbs practicing: express obligation and needs, make short frequent dialogue;
19. Introduction of direct and indirect pronouns;
20. Introduction of the verb Gustar and other similar verbs and Question words: Ask product or information in a shop or public place;
21. Introduction of Presente Progresivo and the application of Gerund (preposition and pronouns);
