THESIS PROPOSAL (2 Credits)
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of research fundamentals by analyzing the core components of a research proposal and articulating a clear research problem with well-defined objectives. They will conduct comprehensive literature reviews to identify gaps and justify their proposed studies. Students will choose and apply appropriate methodologies, developing detailed research designs and addressing ethical considerations in both local and international contexts. Additionally, they will enhance their ability to communicate thesis proposals effectively in both written and oral forms, critically evaluate the feasibility and impact of their proposed topic, and refine their proposals based on feedback and self-assessment. This course aims to develop students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical analysis skills, preparing them comprehensively for their topic.
Topics:
This compulsory course emphasizes the development and articulation of a thesis proposal by offering three alternative assessment activities: an individual research proposal, a consulting project proposal, or a business model creation (BMC) proposal. At the end of the course, students are expected to submit a written thesis proposal in the form of a research proposal, a consulting project outline, or a BMC proposal. The school will assign an academic supervisor to assist each individual or group of students in developing their thesis proposal based on their initial research outline. To assess the students’ progress, each student/group must present their thesis proposal to a panel of academics after the first few weeks. The same panel will then provide feedback and guidance to ensure the proposal’s quality and feasibility. Further details of the thesis proposal requirements are included in the Thesis Proposal Guidelines, provided separately. Students are expected to spend most of their independent study time outside the class/campus, periodically meeting with their assigned supervisor to discuss their work and progress. Supervisors will provide either verbal and/or written feedback to help refine and improve the proposal.
