OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT AND STRATEGY (3 SCU)
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to: apply a systematic approach and integrative thinking in making operational decisions; analyze the impact of global and local market issues on operations; apply techniques to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational systems to support firm performance; analyze the role of information technology in enhancing operations system performance; and develop innovative and ethical solutions for operations and supply chain management problems in specific business contexts.
Topics:
The course begins with an introduction to operations management, followed by process design and approaches to competing on quality. Students will explore product and service design, capacity and facility planning, capacity planning, and layout design. Learning is enriched through experiential activities such as a field trip and a project on operations management. Guest lectures provide insights into supply chain management (SCM) and advanced supply chain practices. The course concludes with project reviews and final project presentations, where students apply their knowledge to real-world operations and strategy challenges.
