GENETICS (2 CREDITS)
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this course, students will be able to: LO1 – Understand genetic concepts, encompassing gene structure, genotype, phenotype, and the various external and internal factors that impact gene expression; LO2 – Explain mechanisms of trait inheritance, including understanding inheritance patterns, changes in genetic material, and their effects on trait inheritance and genetic equilibrium within populations; LO3 – discuss Mendel’s principles of inheritance, pedigree analysis, modifications to Mendelian principles, mechanisms of sex determination, and the concept of gene linkage; LO4 – Use the structure and function of genes, elucidating their role in cellular processes and how they encode genetic information to influence an organism’s phenotype.; LO5 – Explore the underlying of population genetics, including understanding changes in genetic frequency resulting from natural selection, migration, mutation, and other factors influencing genetic equilibrium wit.
