Preface

Thanks to God Almighty, the BINA NUSANTARA Foundation has succeeded in developing BINUS UNIVERSITY to be a recognized and highly valued educational institution, not only for all Indonesian people from all paths of life in general but also for the educational world in particular. As an educational institution, BINUS has shown a continuous commitment to delivering excellent and relevant quality education for industries’ needs. To achieve an international quality standard, we continuously strive to provide students with an excellent learning process, contemporary course materials, and professional human resources to disseminate knowledge and skills. Additionally, we apply a student-centered learning method and develop internationally recognized curricula with our industrial and international partners. Also, we measure and improve our quality under ISO 9001 (since 1997), the education criteria for performance excellence based on MBNQA (Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award).

In fulfilling its vision of becoming a world-class university, fostering and empowering society in building and serving the nation, BINUS UNIVERSITY has implemented Performance Excellence based on the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria since 2008. In 2011, BINUS UNIVERSITY applied for the Indonesian Quality Award which is managed by the Indonesian Quality Award Foundation (IQAF), and in 2017 and 2019 BINUS UNIVERSITY achieved the level of Emerging Industry Leader. In 2022, BINUS applied for the Malcolm Baldridge’s excellence framework assessment which is managed by the Indonesia Quality and Productivity Association (IQPMA). This assessment was called the Indonesia Performance Excellence Award (IPEA), and BINUS University achieved the level of “Best in Class”. In 2023, BINUS UNIVERSITY obtained the “Best in Class” criteria award in Global Performance Excellence Award at the level of the Asia Pacific area.

BINUS UNIVERSITY has been the Indonesian MAKE Award Winner 11 times in a row from 2007 to 2017 and 3 times received special recognition for “Admirable Strong Internal Commitment” in 2011, “Admirable Consistency in Improving Knowledge Management Implementation” in 2013, the Asian MAKE Winner Award in 2014, and “Admirable for Incremental Improvement” for the Indonesian MAKE Study Award in 2016. Starting in 2018, the MAKE Award has turned into the Global MIKE Award (Most Innovative Knowledge Enterprise Award), and every year from 2018 to 2023, BINUS has won the Global MIKE Award 6 times in a row.

As our commitment to ensuring the delivery of world-class education, BINUS UNIVERSITY endeavors to achieve national and international accreditations. For the national accreditations, 18 study programs at BINUS University have received “Unggul” (Excellent) accreditation, 1 study program has received “Baik Sekali” (Very Good) accreditation, 8 study programs have received “A” accreditation, 15 study programs have received “Baik” (Good) accreditation, and 14 study programs have received “B” accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024. BINUS UNIVERSITY also earned an award as the “BEST PRIVATE UNIVERSITY” from the Private Higher Education Coordinator (KOPERTIS) for Region III of DKI Jakarta in 2022. For its recent achievement in 2022, BINUS UNIVERSITY was awarded “Unggul” (Excellent) for the institution accreditation (AIPT) of BAN-PT.

Besides the national accreditations, BINUS UNIVERSITY also endeavors to achieve international accreditations from some reputable international accreditation boards. BINUS UNIVERSITY first obtained full accreditation from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) in 2015, and it was renewed in 2021 for Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Computer Engineering study programs. BINUS UNIVERSITY also earned IABEE (Indonesian Accreditation Board of Engineering Education) accreditation for Computer Engineering in 2019, and for Industrial Engineering and Civil Engineering in 2018. As for the Hotel Management Program, BINUS UNIVERSITY was awarded TEDQUAL accreditation, an international accreditation system for tourism and hospitality education in 2018, which was renewed in 2022. In 2018, BINUS UNIVERSITY also achieved the QS 4 Stars Rating System. As part of its international recognition, BINUS UNIVERSITY achieved the ranking of being in the 801-1000 position in QS World University in 2019 and 2020. At the end of 2019, BINUS Business School was rewarded with AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation, one of the most reputable global business education networks and associations from the USA. For Accounting (Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs), International Relations, Visual Communication Design (Jakarta, Bandung, and Malang), Japanese Literature, Law, Food Technology, Psychology, Film, Interior Design, Hospitality, and Product Design Study Programs, they have also been accredited by HEEACT (Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan) between 2022 and 2023. Recently, at the end of 2023, all of our Computer Science undergraduate and postgraduate programs have obtained ASIIN Accreditatation, and for undergraduate and master’s degrees, in particular, they have also been awarded Euro-Inf. Seals.

To improve the students’ readiness in facing global competition, we have prepared a one-year enrichment program starting from the BINUSIAN 2018 batch. The objectives of this enrichment program are to facilitate students to apply the knowledge and skills that they obtain in their learning process. At the end of their learning, students will get involved in various enrichment programs such as industrial experience, twinning programs, research, business startups, and community development activities.

With 42 years of exceptional experience in education and more than 150,000 alumni, BINUS UNIVERSITY is ready to become an international educational institution. BINUS UNIVERSITY is designed to support graduates to obtain excellent global career opportunities. BINUS UNIVERSITY offers single and double major programs in collaboration with prominent overseas universities to improve the qualifications of its graduates. In the double major program, graduates will be conferred two bachelor’s degrees.

This catalog provides a compilation of comprehensive information concerning BINUS UNIVERSITY, its history, aims, vision and mission, organizational structure, and quality management systems. It also describes the educational systems applied to diploma programs, undergraduate programs, master’s degree programs, professional study programs, and doctorate degree programs. This catalog also describes the competences and curricula of each study program consisting of the distribution of subjects and prerequisites and the syllabi of each subject. There is brief information at the end of this catalog concerning the development of BINUS UNIVERSITY students.

We expect that this catalog can be of great insight to all the “stakeholders” of BINUS UNIVERSITY in general and its academic community in particular. Consequently, it assists the institution as a principal in guiding and providing services to both students and prospective students as well as a communication media for Indonesians altogether.

BINUSIANs aim to be a part of recognized visionary communities as leaders in Information Technology (IT). BINUS UNIVERSITY prepares BINUSIANs to be successful professionals or entrepreneurs through a global learning system approach, IT-based independent learning, core competences and clear pathways in various study programs, and last but not least, through character-building subjects. In achieving this aim, BINUS UNIVERSITY always strives to improve its quality as an education provider. The innovative-flexible programs, on-time lecturing programs, and highly-qualified lecturers support the implementation of such a standard at BINUS UNIVERSITY.
