Event & Travel Business
Introduction
The Event & Travel Business is a tourism-focused undergraduate program that connects destination knowledge with the design, management, and development of event and travel businesses. Building on the academic foundation of tourism destination studies, the program emphasizes business management, innovation, digital technology, entrepreneurship, and sustainable tourism development.
The Event & Travel Business Program at BINUS UNIVERSITY prepares students to identify tourism opportunities and transform them into meaningful experiences, marketable products, and viable business initiatives. Students develop knowledge and practical skills across tourism planning, event management, travel operations, marketing, finance, digital tourism, and sustainable destination development. The program combines analytical, managerial, creative, digital, and interpersonal competencies to prepare graduates for professional and entrepreneurial roles in the interconnected tourism, event, and travel industries.
The program’s perspective extends beyond destinations themselves. Destinations provide the resources, stories, communities, and settings from which tourism experiences can be developed; event and travel businesses create, organize, communicate, and deliver those experiences to different markets. Students are therefore encouraged to understand the wider industry ecosystem, including attractions, venues, accommodation, transportation, catering, event production, entertainment, destination organizations, and creative businesses.
The program follows a 3+1 learning model. In the enrichment year, students may select an approved pathway or combination of activities to deepen their professional experience and apply their learning in a real-world context. Options described in the curriculum include:
- Professional work experience in the tourism, event, or travel industries.
- Developing a business concept in tourism, events, or travel.
- Student exchange at an overseas university.
- Conducting tourism-related research.
- Community engagement and empowerment initiatives, including community-based tourism.
- Specific study or other approved enrichment activities.
Field projects, industry engagement, and field trips support applied learning and expose students to tourism destinations and event and travel businesses in local and international contexts. Tourism core subjects may be delivered in English to strengthen students’ readiness for international learning and professional environments. Students will learn an additional foreign language beyond English to expand their opportunities for international enrichment programs and global experiences.
